Occasionally with, Sara Walker
This months Occasionally guest is my dear friend Sara Walker. We met only recently and I immediately gravitated to her light and carefree energy. Her wardrobe is a complete extension of this; enjoy!
Sara Walker is a content creator, stylist, and fashion consultant from Seattle. Currently based in Los Angeles, after three years as part of the Revolve buying team, Sara spends her time curating classic yet playful looks across her social media platforms, whilst consulting on creative projects for brands across the world. I love Sara’s personal style as it really reflects her energy and essence, and in my opinion offers something unique and refreshing in a digital world that’s becoming more and more same-y. She mixes timeless essentials with bold colours, prints and enviable vintage finds, and I think you’re going to love her take on event dressing!

Take us back to one of your favourite Occasions. Why is it a favourite and what were you wearing?
I loved the outfit I wore to the Zimmermann show in Paris (where we first ran into each other!!!) I wore a full Zimmermann but my favourite part was the butter yellow trench coat. It was such a fun and unique layering piece. (matching cargo pants + bodysuit)
What was your most recent occasion and what did you wear?
I went to a fancy dinner in Miami with some friends and wore a coral coloured Bottega Veneta dress that I found on The Real Real. It is one of my favourite second hand pieces that I have ever found!
What’s one occasion you wish you could go back and re-do, and would you dress differently?
I am not sure I would go back and re-do any of my outfits, but sometimes I look back and wish I had accessorized more. I think every outfit - no matter the occasion - could use some fun jewellery, a bag and / or shoes!
What would you wear for:
Your own birthday event
Simple yet classic!
A best friends birthday party
This cute polka dot moment
A dinner with friends
A cute white set, I love this skirt and top set!
A date night
Something flowy and feminine, this black and white polka dot midi dress is perfect.
A summer wedding
Love this yellow one!
A winter wedding
LOVE this!
A black tie event
You can’t go wrong with a black maxi dress!
A summer garden party
A white high neck mini dress like this one.
In general, what are some of your favourite brand(s) for occasion wear?
Christopher Esber, Cult Gaia, Reformation, Proenza Schouler, Zimmermann
Favourite dresses or other pieces that you own?
My Totême Trench & Chanel Bustier
And what’s your most cherished piece of clothing or accessory?
A Chanel Bustier my mom got in the 90s and that she gave to me. It is so, so timeless. It also inspires me to invest in certain pieces that will last through decades and possibly be passed down through generations.
Let’s get into accessories. What are your favourite pieces and which brands do you go to for jewellery, bags or shoes when you have an event or occasion coming up?
Cult Gaia for bags and jewellery, and Heaven Mayhem for jewellery! Jimmy Choo for shoes, always!
On your Wishlist?
These adorable shoes.
What special occasions do you have coming up, and what looks are you planning?
I am traveling to London and the South Of France this summer, I am only just starting to plan... stay tuned! I also spent a week in Provence with Reformation and they - as always - have so many great pieces in for Summer. Think classic linen dresses, cute two-piece sets and bold accessories.
What’s your ultimate confidence-boost kind of outfit?
Good jeans, a cool top, comfortable shoes & a fun bag!
Which outfit or items always attract the most compliments?
My Toteme Trench!
What’s your favourite era for occasion wear? Do you have a most iconic fashion moment / style icon / red carpet look that inspires your formal wardrobe?
I find inspiration from movies, magazines and Pinterest. I love so many eras and moments, I continue to get inspired every day.
Let’s move into beauty and, more specifically, make up, for special occasions. Do you have any favourite products or a go-to look you love to create for evening occasions, and how does it differ from your everyday make up?
My evening occasion makeup is very similar to my everyday makeup. I add a little bit of Victoria Beckham Beauty eyeshadow and eyeliner (I love the navy blue color!) for special occasions.
And how do you prep before a big occasion?
I love a good blowout and always have Glamsquad come to my house to style my hair. It is so easy & looks great!
You're hosting at home - how would you dress, what would you serve, what’s on your playlist and who would you invite?
My family and a few close friends. I would make spaghetti & meatballs, a salad and for dessert homemade chocolate chip cookies. I’d be wearing some laid back jeans and a sweater, paired with kitten heels to dress it up a little.
